Projects
Updated Apr 23, 2026
A Project is a container for work you bill under a single arrangement. Usually that's one Project per client, though some freelancers prefer one per long-running engagement.
Creating a project
From the Projects list (the home screen after login), click Create Project. You need:
- Name (required) - usually the client or engagement name.
- Description (optional) - a note for yourself. Doesn't appear on invoices.
Click Save. The Project appears in your list.
Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd+Alt+C to open the create dialog from the Projects screen.
Editing a project
From the Projects list, use the row menu (three dots) and pick Edit, or open the Project and click the edit action. You can change the name and description.
Deleting and restoring
LogForMe uses soft deletion - deleted Projects aren't gone, they're moved to a Trashed tab.
- Delete: row menu → Delete. The Project moves to Trashed.
- Restore: switch to the Trashed tab, find the Project, row menu → Restore.
- Force delete: from the Trashed tab, Delete forever. This is permanent.
Note: (soft) deleting a Project does not automatically delete the Time Frames and Entries inside it - they stay associated with the Project but become inaccessible through the UI until you restore the Project. If you deleted permanently, the related time frames and entries are erased permanently too.
What you can see on a Project
When you open a Project, you see:
- Its name (inline editable via the edit button).
- A list of its Time Frames, paginated, with tabs: All, Done, In Progress, Trashed.
- A Create Time Frame button.
Each Time Frame row shows its name (or date range if unnamed), status badge, and quick totals.
Projects are just containers
Unlike clients in accounting software, Projects in LogForMe don't hold a default rate, currency, or set of taxes. Those all live on Time Frames - one level down. This is deliberate: the same client might have different rates per engagement, and you shouldn't have to duplicate the whole Project to change a rate mid-flight.
If this annoys you, see preferences.md - you can set account-wide defaults for rate and currency that pre-fill every new Time Frame.
Soft limits by plan
- Community Edition: unlimited Projects (it's your server).
- Starter: 5 active Projects.
- Premium: 100 active Projects.
